Swartland Municipality has been made aware of a suspected case of Foot and Mouth (FMD) disease in the Swartland Municipality.
All relevant stakeholders have been notified. The farm in question is located close to the border of Cape Town and is under surveillance. The situation is being monitored by the Western Cape Department of Agriculture: State Veterinary services.
We are awaiting lab confirmation, until lab confirmation has been received, all protocols will be followed as if this is a confirmed positive case.
Swartland Municipal Law Enforcement will continue to work closely with various partners to enforce a movement control zone. Swartland Municipality have requested feedback from the Provincial Department of Agriculture on when the rollout of FMD vaccines will be possible in the Swartland.
The Swartland is a critical dairy region in the Western Cape and we therefore urge all stakeholders to cooperate with the safety and security measures to prevent the spread and impact of FMD. Cooperation is key in curbing the spread and impact of FMD.
