All new liquor license applications lodged with and approved by the Western Cape Liquor Board in respect of licensees trading within the Swartland municipal area, will in future be subject to the trading days and hours as determined by the municipal by-law. To view the applicable by-law, which was promulgated on 20 April 2012, click here.

Swartland wins appeal about mining operations-  The Supreme Court of Appeal held on 23 September 2011 that once a person has been granted a mining right by the Minister of Mineral Resources, he or she will not be able to commence mining operations in terms of that right without obtaining authorisation in terms of the Land Use Planning Ordinance 15 of 1985.  To read full judgment, click here
